Towards Just Futures: What could they look like? And who is fighting for them? We opened the doors for you on the evening of November 8th at our inaugural Allianz Foundation Summit 2023 in Berlin in search of the answers to these questions. Over the course of 2.5 days, we invited our partners from more than 20 countries to jointly address the urgency of social justice by acting with the next generations in mind. Better living conditions for the next generations and what roots of injustice must be addressed to achieve them - that is what the Allianz Foundation works towards.

Dear friends, partners and colleagues,
We look back on three intensive, inspiring and insightful days at the Allianz Foundation Summit. The Summit started with gatherings specifically geared towards our Hubs and remarkable Fellows, providing a warm welcome to new additions to our community: INLAND from Spain and Recycl’Art from Belgium. These meetings set the starting point for the multiannual cooperation of the hubs network.
In 19 different workshops and panels, we learned about the multitude of facets that our partners are engaged in – and the many avenues towards justice they actively pursue.
We listened to Oleksandra Matviichuk of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Center for Civil Liberties from Ukraine, British-Israeli architect Eyal Weizman, founder and director of Forensic Architecture, former judge at the German Federal Constitutional Court Susanne Baer and Wolfgang Kaleck (ECCHR) discuss the urgency of a framework of human rights in order to push for change.
With Seba Calfuqueo’s flowing like waterfalls and Marta Górnicka’s MOTHERS – A Song for Wartime, we witnessed mesmerizing moments of art.
We heard Kübra Gümüşay and Alberto Alemanno ponder about the power of utopias, even in moments when this seems impossible.
The year 2023 was challenging in every aspect, marked by polycrisis and wars. It was a year defined by cruel events and images. It reminded us once again of the significance of international solidarity and understanding. Therefore, we are deeply grateful for the valuable work of our partners around the world. Looking back on the AF Summit, it is these individuals and initiatives that sustain our belief in just futures for the generations to come, despite everything. In this spirit, we wish everyone a hopeful and peaceful 2024.

The Allianz Foundation Summit 2023 zoomed in on the path towards more just living conditions for the next generations. We asked: What could just futures look like (and who is fighting for them)? With 150 transdisciplinary perspectives from civil society, arts & culture, climate action, journalism and human rights from Europe and the Mediterranean, this forum created new ties across borders and disciplines.
