The Movers of Tomorrow Award is the Allianz Foundation's award for civic engagement. It honours young people who stand up for equal opportunities, open societies and a living planet. As our micro-grant programme, the award connects its winners with one another and empowers them to forge their own paths.

Today's generation is growing up in a time of profound uncertainty. And yet many young people across Europe are actively working towards the society they want to live in (Allianz Foundation Study, 2023 & 2026). The award supports those who meet the challenges of our time with courage, creativity and fresh perspectives. It makes their engagement visible, recognises it and creates opportunities to meet others who are just as committed to change.

The award brings together committed young people from very different fields and walks of life: they campaign online for greater social justice, create spaces for youth participation in their cities, develop new approaches to environmental protection, strengthen their communities through volunteering, or found initiatives and movements that push for change across the country. These different experiences make room for mutual inspiration, shared learning and collaboration. Above all, they show the participants one thing: they are not alone.

Since 2024, the award has brought together 50 young people every year as Movers of Tomorrow. What began as an award for civic engagement has grown into a network of changemakers who share experiences, ideas and the wish for a better future. The recognition raises their visibility and opens doors to new partnerships and opportunities, while the financial support allows the Movers to develop existing initiatives further or to drive new ideas forward.

More than a moment of recognition

But the award is meant to be more than a moment of recognition. The Movers community creates lasting connections between young people who support and inspire one another. The exchange does not end with the award; it keeps growing beyond it. This builds relationships and a sense of belonging that can sustain long-term engagement. Movers learn from each other, share experiences and develop new ideas across different fields and perspectives. In this way, the award does not only honour individual engagement, it also strengthens a connected generation of young civil society actors.

Looking ahead

So far, the Movers of Tomorrow Award exists only in Germany. But the challenges the Movers take on do not stop at national borders, and neither does their wish to shape a better future. This lays the groundwork for growing the award and its Movers community beyond Germany and across Europe. Young changemakers from different countries could exchange experiences, develop ideas together and create new forms of collaboration across borders and fields. A national award could thus become a European network of civil society actors, united by a shared conviction: the future is not something you wait for. It is something we shape together.
